My Philosophy on Makeup:
Whether it is your wedding day or a special occasion, it is always best to take a
woman or young lady and bring them one to two levels up in elegance. For example,
a groom would definitely want to recognize his bride walking down the aisle. The
bride should be able to see herself in years to come as a timeless classic vision of
beauty. This is why we try to talk clients out of trendy looks as well as too glamorous
of a look. You should feel gorgeous by the time we finish our work and yet feel
comfortable being you. We will however accommodate our client's wishes. Feel free
to cut out pictures from magazines as to the look you'd like and we will match it.
What to look for when hiring a Professional Makeup Artist:
Every professional makeup artist starts out by interviewing the client. With a few
questions he/she should be able to sum up the look and feel of the makeup that a
client wants. At this point it is appropriate for the artist to provide the client with
some insight as to what is currently in fashion or what would be best for the client.
Ultimately, the client decides what is best for her and we do what she feels is
comfortable. The last thing you want is for a makeup artist to tell you how to look. It
is wise to make sure that the artist that does your initial dry run will in fact be the
same artist for both portrait and wedding day. Otherwise, it is not a true dry run.
Also, make sure that you schedule a trial consultation before hiring or providing a
deposit. Ask yourself questions like 1) Did the makeup artist sterilize the brushes
before using them on me? (it's ok to ask), 2) Do I love the look the artist gave me? (a
second trial may be in order), and 3) can I see some of your work? (any skilled artist
should have a portfolio). You need someone that will care as much as you do!
